So, my heat pump has been frozen for a week and the auxiliary heat is jacking up our electric bill, not to mention it isn't sufficient for keeping the house warm. Todd and I dumped several gallons of hot water into the heat pump today, then covered it up with a tarp to keep more freezing water from falling into the unit from the roof ( Read more... )

So, Todd has a friend who has worked on our house before; he's sort of a handyman. He came by this morning and insulated the pipes to the toilet and washer and he fixed the shower head leak. He helped Todd wrap the heat pump in a tarp to avoid more ice accumulating but the big problem with that now is that the insides are already frozen to the ( Read more... )

So, I have a functional heating system now! A guy came out and replaced the thermostat and told me he blamed this Randy Breen guy who installed the incorrect thermostat. They work together.

Anyway, yippee!

So, our roof was replaced with a rubber one at no charge on Sunday. Yay! They're calling for rain on Thursday so we'll see if it holds up. Our Realtor said he'll punch someone in the face if the roof leaks again. If it doesn't, a contractor is lined up to replace the ceiling in my art room and repaint. So, the story on my heat problem is that the wrong thermostat was installed. We have a heat pump and it hasn't been running with the heat on because our furnace has an "emergency heat" setting but the thermostat has 'cool', 'off' and 'heat' so the "heat" has actually been the "emergency" heat which is why the furnace has been struggling to heat the ( Read more... )
